History and Origin
The Old Fashioned is considered one of the oldest cocktails in the world and dates back to the 19th century. It was originally made with rye whiskey, but after Prohibition, bourbon also became popular for this drink. The Old Fashioned was first recorded by Jerry Thomas in his 1862 cocktail book “How to Mix Drinks, or the Bon-Vivant's Companion”. Today, the Old Fashioned is a symbol of classic cocktail art and is appreciated worldwide.
