History and Origin
The Daiquiri was invented in the mining town of Daiquirí near Santiago de Cuba in the early 20th century. The cocktail was named after the town and popularized by American engineers working in Cuba. The Daiquiri gained international fame when it was served at the La Floridita bar in Havana, where it became one of Ernest Hemingway's favorite drinks.
